The BDA are currently working on standards for a higher quality method of encoding 3D content onto Blu-ray discs.

Here's an article that I think is quite good, called "The future of 3D on Blu-ray". I think the article describes the 3D situation quite well. Though the article mentions that the BDA are going to choose a 3D system, it's likely they will choose a system (possibly Panasonic, like the article says), but probably with some modifications.
